The Initiative on Soaring Food Prices is active in more than 90 countries worldwide, for a total value of about USD 385 million. Of this, over USD 37 million is funded through FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme, USD 283 million through the EU Food Facility and nearly USD 65 million by other donors.
In most countries, FAO is supporting governments in supplying agricultural inputs such as high-yielding seeds and fertilizers, tools and equipment to help vulnerable farmers boost their food production and livelihood prospects.
To strengthen food security over the long run and help build the resilience of smallholder farmers to future shocks, FAO is working with governments to improve rural infrastructure, promote sustainable agricultural practices and ensure farmers have greater access to technical assistance, training, credit and markets.
FAO is also providing policy advice and monitoring global, regional and domestic food prices.
The Country Information pages give an overview of the situation in each country, FAO’s response, projects funded by the European Union Food Facility, contributions received and project or programme proposals based on country action plans. FAO, in cooperation with partners of the UN High-Level Task Force, carried out a series of inter-agency assessments and rapid appraisals in nearly 60 countries from 2008 to 2009. The findings of these assessment missions are also available on the country pages. These pages are under construction, so please check regularly for updates and new content.
