The twenty-seventh session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI), held in Rome (5 – 9 March 2007), supported the convening of an Expert Consultation to further develop the concept of a comprehensive global record of fishing vessels, as described in FAO’s feasibility study.

The Committee pointed out the need to clarify the project’s objectives, to have due sensitivity to costs, to be mindful of confidentiality requirements and the need to link the project to other reliable information sources such as national registers and RFMO lists.
