New FAO Representative for Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize

Dr Crispim Moreira has been appointed as FAO Representative for Jamaica, The Bahamas and Belize.

Dr Moreira, a national of Brazil, is an Agricultural Engineer and holds a Doctorate in Geography
from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Dr Moreira started his career in 1993 as Deputy Secretary of Municipal Food Supply,
Municipality of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. In 2000, he was appointed Director, in charge of Land Policy
and Settlements of Land Reform, Land Institute (ITER), State of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

In 2003, he served as National Superintendent of Agrarian Development (Land Reform) in the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA), Brasilia DF, Brazil. From 2004 to 2008, he was Director of the Decentralization Department within the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger, Brasilia DF, Brazil. From 2008 to 2011, he was National Secretary of Food Security (Vice Minister), Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger, Brasilia DF, Brazil. 

From 2011 to June 2012, he was Professor at the Minas Gerais State University and concurrently
Technical Advisor on Food Security and Policies to combat Poverty in the Legislative Assembly of
Minas Gerais, Brazil. He joined FAO in July 2012 as FAO Representative in Bolivia and from January
2018, he served as FAO Representative in Mexico.

Dr Crispim Moreira succeeds Mr Jerome Thomas as FAO Representative in Jamaica.
