Special Programme on Food Security (SPFS)

Building on WAICENT expertise, a component in a Japanese Trust Fund project is focusing on developing the capabilities to manage information in the context of the SPFS Regional Programme in four Asian countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Sri Lanka), in order to have a wider impact at regional level. It will also strengthen links across disciplines and between agencies involved in the SPFS.

The outputs will include a set of tools and methodologies, extensively tested and in modular form, for establishing an information system platform for the SPFS for enhanced food security and agricultural development in the Asia-Pacific region. A range of information content will be made available, but specifically a database of technologies developed/tested and lessons learned through the SPFS will maximise the return on investments in the Programme. The national capacities of the countries to manage information for food security and agricultural development will be improved, together with collaborative links for information exchange in the Asia/Pacific region.
