Technical Consultation on Agricultural Information and Knowledge Management

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is convening a Technical Consultation on Agricultural Information and Knowledge Management on 28 September, 2007, to consider technical and policy issues related to accessing, exchanging and contributing agricultural information and knowledge to ensure food security and sustainable development.
The Technical Consultation will consider recent achievements and improvements carried out by FAO to further enhance the role of the Agency as a Knowledge Organization, including the development of the Ask FAO service, establishment of thematic knowledge networks and communities of practice, and documenting of best practices.
The Consultation will also consider FAO’s work in the area of e-Agriculture, a term coined by the World Summit on the Information Society, which focuses on the enhancement of agriculture and rural development through improved information exchange and communication. Members will consider the findings of an international survey on e-Agriculture conducted in 2006, with participation from 135 Countries, and other activities related to the development of an international community of practice.
