If we are going to make any progress in reaching our goals for reducing hunger, we are going to have to work together.
There are so many factors that contribute to hunger: poverty, the environment, education, rights. We can’t afford to focus on single issues. They are all related. All organizations working for sustainable development and social justice need to share their expertise and resources.
That’s why UN Millennium Development Goal Number 8 is to develop a global partnership for development.

FAO and three other Rome-based agencies – the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP) and Bioversity International have come together to help build the International Alliance Against Hunger. (Find out more about IFAD and WFP.)
The International Alliance against Hunger is a voluntary association of local, national and international institutions and organizations. All these organizations have a common mission – to eradicate world hunger and poverty.
The Alliance provides support to governments in their efforts to reduce hunger and poverty. It does this in part by helping individual countries set up their own national alliances against hunger to focus on their specific needs. In less than two years, 36 countries have established national alliances.
FAO has also played a large role in other international partnerships for development. One of these partnerships is the Mountain Partnership.
