What does FAO do? :: Nutrition

To be fit and active, we need a healthy, balanced diet that contains a variety of food containing essential vitamins and minerals. This means eating lots of fruit and vegetables, wholemeal bread and cereals, protein-rich food such as meat, fish and eggs, and dairy products like milk.

Many types of food contain nutritional information on their labels, to help people make healthy choices when buying products. A commission set up and overseen by FAO and the World Health Organization, known as Codex Alimentarius, helps promote such labelling across countries.

Across the world, millions of people continue to die or suffer from serious illness as they do not have access to sufficient amounts of food containing vital nutrients.
