Our internal vision at FAO is to embrace the culture of knowledge sharing - through collaboration and continuous learning – all of which are fundamental to effective and efficient programme delivery. FAO Knowledge Strategy (pdf, 621 KB) identifies, through its two change objectives, a sustained and focused plan to cultivate knowledge sharing in FAO.
With the Strategy as the foundation, the Knowledge Sharing Team (KS Team) of the Office of Knowledge Exchange, Research and Extension provides ad-hoc support and advice in several ways to achieve these change objectives.
- Objective 1
Improving the balance and integration between FAO's efforts to produce needed information and knowledge and its efforts to facilitate access to and flow of needed information and knowledge.
- Objective 2
Increasing the adoption of information and knowledge sharing concepts, methods and tools by FAO managers and teams.
- Facilitation and Support for collaboration: The KS Team provides guidance and support for designing participatory events and online collaborative workspaces.
- Networks and Communities: The KS Team provides training, guidance and support to facilitate and strengthen FAO’s thematic networks and communities. These networks and communities assist FAO staff at all levels to manage and use knowledge effectively.
- Share Fairs: The KS Team designs and organizes sharing events that bring together FAO’s partners and stakeholders to facilitate knowledge transfer and exchange. People connect with people using innovative methods and practices to link ideas and resources and identify good practices that apply to their own work.
- Shared space for internal networking: The KS Team created Knowledge Café, an internal online community designed exclusively to promote a healthy exchange of ideas, practical know-how and good practices.
- Training: The KS Team actively promotes knowledge sharing approaches by providing training, building awareness, and supporting the development of staff in these competencies. These are documented on the KS toolkit in collaboration with partner organizations.
By building a foundation from ground up that strengthens individual staff, groups or communities facilitating interactions among external partners and stakeholders, the KS Team works like a comprehensive solutions provider. Our targeted guidance and support at various levels is enabling the culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within FAO. |
