Land & Water

Expected outcomes

  • Deeper understanding of current constraints and challenges impacting the wide adoption of nonconventional water approaches and identification of ways forward to remove barriers;
  • Overview of nonconventional water approaches available with case studies focused on agriculture that contribute to the range of solutions that address water scarcity in agriculture under a changing climate;
  • Better understanding of the importance of tailored-made policies, regulations and financial instruments to accelerate the adoption of nonconventional water approaches;
  • Increased knowledge of the circular economy and its pros and cons in relation to  nonconventional water options in agriculture.

Specific objectives

  1. Observe and test the integration of development results indicators in infrastructure and sustainable development projects in the context of SDG 6 and SDG 2.
  2. Exchange practical knowledge on methods of project design and appraisal related to the sustainability of water related investment projects, including economic, environmental and social analyses and project scoring.
  3. Explore how international organizations and custodians of SDG indicators, such as FAO, can work together with financial institutions to identify, plan, implement and monitor investment projects which are aligned with SDGs.

    A key outcome of the workshop is a stronger partnership between countries, development agencies and IFIs, in order to streamline the SDGs process into the investment process and to ensure that the collective and individual efforts are aimed at attaining the SDGs 17, 6 and 2.
