Register to the WASAG webinar "Water Productivity Improvements – A Silver Bullet for the Climate Crisis?", 14 July 2020, 15.00-16.30 CEST

The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG) hosted by the FAO Land and Water Division is organizing its eighth webinar on "Water Productivity Improvements – A Silver Bullet for the Climate Crisis?".

This webinar is organized by leading institutions on sustainable agricultural water use, including the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE), the World Bank, the African Union, Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and the WASAG working group on “Sustainable Agricultural Water Management”.

A White Paper titled ‘Can Water Productivity Improvements Save Us from Global Water Scarcity?’ has been drafted based on the discussions at the Working Group workshop (25-27 February 2020 at CHIEAM in Bari, Italy) and further consultations and literature research. The White Paper reviews the state of knowledge, presents relevant methodologies and approaches, and offers key policy recommendation to scale interventions and to ensure effective solutions across scales.

This webinar will discuss the potential and limitations of water productivity interventions in helping water managers (from the farm to the basin level) to deal with growing scarcity due to climatic and other changes. The main messages of the White Paper on Water Productivity will be presented and feedback from key stakeholders will be received.
