The Land and Water team celebrating the World Water Day 2020 online!

This morning, over 70 members of the FAO Land and Water Division led by their Director Eduardo Mansur, met online to celebrate the World Water Day 2020 “Water and Climate Change” and to discuss how the water sector can tackle climate change.

FAO Deputy Director-General Maria Helena Semedo kicked off the virtual event by welcoming the CBL team. This was followed by FAO DG QU Dongyu's video message for the International Water Day and by a variety of engaging presentations, including  a first look at the UN World Water Development Report 2020 “Water and Climate Change”. An overview of the considerable, ongoing digital campaign by FAO was also shared.

The team was then dropped into a presentation from FAO and The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG) ’s work on combating climate-induced pressures on water in agriculture.

Alex Jones, Climate and Environment Division Director, also connected to celebrate and share his take on the importance of tackling water-related issues in the context of climate change and the gradual recognition of the role of water in related international processes.

We are happy to connect and celebrate World Water Day 2020 in this successful and innovative online meeting!
