Committee on Agriculture (COAG)

From 26/09/2016 To 30/09/2016
Location: FAO HQ, Rome, Italy

At its 25th session, the Committee on Agriculture will discuss 14 priority themes. Ensuring effective actions towards the implementation of key elements of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by addressing agriculture, forestry and fisheries in a more integrated way is one of the major topics.

Another central theme is the development of the FAO Corporate Climate Change Strategy. The Committee will provide inputs for its further development.

The Committee will also give guidance on how nutrition could be mainstreamed across the FAO Strategic Framework and in regional and national policies, paying particular attention to relevant outcomes for agriculture and livestock development, and will discuss the role of agricultural innovations in sustainable rural development as well as the sustainable soil management.

Furthermore, this session will be invited to support the use of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 guidelines that will guide the implementation of agricultural censuses in FAO member countries between 2016 and 2025.

Recognizing the key role of livestock sector in food security and nutrition, poverty reduction, health, climate change and resource use, COAG supported the creation of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock in 2011. During this session, the Committee will consider its governance structure including the role of FAO.
