Brief description of institution/organization

In 1919 the Faculty of Agronomy was founded at Tbilisi State University. In 1929 this faculty was transformed into Georgian Agricultural Institute. Since 1991 it has become Georgian State Agrarian University. Georgian State Agrarian University provides complete university type education. It prepares Bachelors and Masters of Sciences for all branches of Agricultural Science.

The Faculty of Land Reclamation and Engineering Ecology was founded in 1974. The Faculty prepares students in Land Reclamation and Engineering Ecology. The Faculty embraces the following Departments:
- Agricultural Hydraulic-Engineering Melioration;
- Hydraulic and Engineering Ecology;
- Engineering Constructions, Buidling Materilas and Mechanics of Grounds, Materials and Soils Mechanics;
- Engineering Graphics and Descriptive Geometry;
- Higher Mathematics and Theoretical Mechanics.
The research work aims at forecasting the influence of water ecosystem on the environment and perfection the methods of solution ecological tasks. The Faculty has many copyright certificates and patents.

The Department of Agricultural Hydraulic-Engineering Melioration was establishes in 1939. The following subjects are tought:
- Agricultural melioration (Irrigation and Drainage);
- Hydraulic engineering melioration of forest lands;
- Operation of hydro-melioration systems;
- Irrigative husbandary;
- Water industry;
- Natural disasters and their control measures (mudflows, floods, etc).
