Agricultural Engineering is a branch of applied sciences principally devoted to combination of biological, physical, and engineering sciences with the objective of advancement of the agricultural and food production and processing sector. This important engineering discipline is concerned with application of engineering principles in the interface between agriculture and engineering, with emphasis on production of food, fiber, and materials of biological origin. It stresses on design of machinery, equipment, systems, instrumentation, and processes of various agricultural production and processing fields. The department was established in 1975 as a pioneering Agricultural Engineering Department in the country. Its mission is to offer a strong academic training to enrolled students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. The department is active in applied research in various fields of Agricultural Engineering, and several projects in the fields of Irrigation and Drainage, Power and Machinery, and Food Process Engineering are generously funded by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). |
