Partners - Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

In December 2004 IPTRID's Assistant Programme Manager visited the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and met with Mr Aly Shady, Senior Water Specialist and other high officials to discuss possibilities of Canadian support for the Programme. A general presentation of IPTRID was made, followed by discussions on the nature and level of CIDA possible future involvement in Programme activities.

Role within IPTRID's activities:

HORTICA, Identification of a capacity building project for drip irrigation in the Niayes region, Senegal (recently completed project)

Together with the Canadian International Development Agency, IPTRID Secretariat supported a needs assessment and planning workshop held in Sally (June 2003). More than 50 stakeholders, both from the private and public sectors, participated. IPTRID played a central role in staging the workshop and in drafting the “Plan d’Action pour le Développement de la Micro-irrigation dans la Zone des Niayes”. This has paved the way for further cooperation between IPTRID and the Directorate of Horticulture in the preparation of specific projects for bilateral funding.
