The Department for International Development
(DFID) is one of IPTRID's main Partners and Donors.
On December 2002, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
was signed between the Government of the United Kingdom
(action through DFID) and FAO for the financing of US$150,000
as core contribution to IPTRID.
|
|
One year after (November 2003) another
MOU between IPTRID and DFID established an external review
that included the visit of two consultants of the British
Organization, which took place in October and November 2004.
This review consisted in evaluating IPTRID's main activities
that have been carried out during 2003 and 2004.
Impacts were also assessed as well as the current financial
situation. On the base of the results of this evaluation, DFID decided further financial supports for the Programme.

Role within IPTRID's activities:
Some activities are herein highlighted among
the large number of initiatives financed and supported by DFID:
WCA-infoNET: Information
System on Water Conservation and Use in Agriculture (on-going
project)
|

|
WCA-infoNET is a global platform on water conservation
and use in the agriculture sector. Together with other
Partners, DFID takes part in the international task force
which ensures the technical reliability of the information
included in the database.

Production
of GRID magazine
(on-going project)
DFID financial contribution is fundamental
for the production of GRID Network magazine, IPTRID's flag publication
produced on a six-month basis regularly since 1992. It aims
to improve the exchange of information among researchers and
between researchers and practitioners, providing news on recent
innovations in irrigation and drainage, notable research results
and updates on IPTRID's activities.
Towards
Integrated Planning of Irrigation and Drainage, Egypt
(recently completed project)
Supported by DFID
(UK) together with other Partners, the study was carried out by IPTRID/FAO with the specific purpose of complementing the ongoing preparation of the Integrated
Irrigation Improvement and Management Project (IIIMP). It was
conducted in two phases: a Rapid Assessment Study of irrigation
and drainage development in Egypt and a Stakeholder Workshop
in which the main findings were presented to and discussed with
some fifty participants.
