As one of its major responsibilities, the Legal Office maintains several comprehensive legislative databases: FAOLEX, FISHLEX, WATERLEX, WATER TREATIES, and has most recently been instrumental in developing PORTLEX, a database on port state measures to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. FAOLEX is the world’s largest electronic collection of national laws and regulations, as well as international treaties on food, agriculture and renewable natural resources. These databases are tools of great value to governments, practitioners, non- governmental organizations and scholars.
