As one of its major responsibilities, the Legal Office maintains several comprehensive legislative databases: FAOLEX, FISHLEX, WATERLEX, WATER TREATIES, PORTLEX and most recently has been instrumental in developing Right to Food Data, an informative baseline indicating the legal commitment of countries to the right to food and food security and nutrition.

FAOLEX is the world’s largest electronic collection of national laws and regulations, as well as international treaties on food, agriculture and renewable natural resources. These databases are tools of great value to governments, practitioners, non- governmental organizations and scholars. Combined, they are one of the largest available information resources on environmental law globally.
