Indian-Journal-of-DairyScience. 1988, 31: 4, 404-405; 6 ref. 15 male buffaloes were fed for 97 days on ò50% Leucaena leucocephala (containing the toxin mimosine) with wheat straw, or wheat and concentrates (controls). Semen was produced by 4 of the 10 bulls fed Leucaena and 2 of the 5 control bulls. Ejaculate volume in control and Leucaena-fed animals averaged 1.94ñ0.37 and 1.99ñ0.4 ml resp. Sperm motility ranged from 45 to 75% in controls; of the 4 Leucaena-fed bulls which produced semen, 2 showed zero sperm motility and 2 showed 40 to 80% motility. Blood LH concentration averaged 0.39ñ0.05 and 0.24ñ0.03 ng/ml in controls and Leucaena-fed animals resp.; blood testosterone concentration averaged 0.65ñ0.32 and 0.35ñ0.02 ng/ml, blood thyroxine concentration 15.05ñ2.39 and 13.47ñ3.13 ng/ml, and av. daily weight gain 590 and 345 g. This abstract relates to the following species:Leucaena leucocephala
