Sta., Gayndah, Qld. 4625, Australia. Tropical-Grasslands. 1983, 17: 4, 170-178; 30 ref. Hereford weaners were grazed during 1977-9 at 1.25 head/ha on native pasture consisting predominantly of Heteropogon contortus and on some paddocks of Leucaena leucocephala with Panicum maximum var. trichaglume as volunteer in some of the inter-row spaces. The Leucaena subplots were grazed rotationally, with regrowth allowed to occur during Nov. to April or June. Mean daily intake of Leucaena was 5.2, 1.7 and 2.0 kg/head in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grazing rotations, resp. Digestibility and ME content of Leucaena were higher for the leaf than the stem. Leucaena-supplemented cattle gained 248 kg/head compared with a liveweight gain of 135 kg for unsupplemented cattle. This abstract relates to the following species:Heteropogon contortus, Leucaena leucocephala
