In digestibility and growth trials, Flemish Giant X New Zealand White rabbits were given diets containing woody legumes, non-woody legumes or grasses; 0, 40, 60, 80 or 92.5% rice bran; or rice bran supplemented with salt and limestone, vitamin and mineral premix, molasses, lysine and/or methionine without or with a mixture of leucaena, cassava tops and elephant grass. Woody legumes had a higher nutritive value than non-woody legumes or agricultural byproducts, and grasses were lowest. Leucaena and Sesbania gave the best results. Brachiaria was only a source of indigestible fibre. Rice bran could be included up to 60% in the diet. Supplementation with micro- and macronutrients was necessary in a rice bran-forage feeding system. This abstract relates to the following species:
