The East African Community Invites MAFAP to Hold a Side Event at their International Symposium on Agricultural Development on the 6th of November 2013

21 Oct 2013
By December 2013, all East African Community (EAC) partner states will have celebrated 50 years of independence.

To commemorate this important milestone, the EAC together with Kilimo Trust and ASARECA, are organizing an International Symposium on Agricultural Development to be held from the 4th-8th of November 2013 at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. The theme of the symposium is “Agricultural Development in the EAC: Lessons From the Past 50 Years and Prospects for the Future”.
The EAC has invited MAFAP to participate in this event to share and discuss key findings on food security crops with stakeholders and policy makers in the East Africa Region. The MAFAP Secretariat accepted the EAC’s invitation and will hold a Side Event on the 6th of November 2013 under the theme “Monitoring the Impacts of Policies on Key Food Security Crops in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda”. The objectives of the side event are to:

  • disseminate MAFAP findings for three commodities important for food security in East Africa – maize, rice and wheat;
  • strengthen MAFAP’s collaboration with the EAC Secretariat and other regional organizations in East Africa; and
  • initiate a policy dialogue process among various stakeholders on policies for food security in the region.

The side event will include presentations spearheaded by MAFAP country partners from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
