Overview of key events

  • February 2012: MAFAP activities started in Ghana – including gathering data for price analysis.

  • November 2012:
    - Workshop to present the preliminary results of the analyses of price incentives and disincentives.
    - Capacity building session on the MAFAP methodology for public expenditure analysis.

  • April 2013: Capacity building workshop on the MAFAP methodology for analysing price incentives.

  • Expected outcome: stakeholders use and apply the MAFAP methodology for policy monitoring and evaluation.

  • May 2013: Public expenditure analysis finalized.

Key Findings

  • In general, farmers receive lower prices compared to international prices, while consumers sometimes pay higher prices.

  • Domestic prices are converging with international prices. However, ad hoc policies and poorly functioning markets are a significant burden for producers and consumers.
