Welcome to the "Road to Maastricht", the second phase of the Electronic Conference on the Multifunctional Character of Agriculture and Land that we began in February and March of this year. This, as the name suggests, provides a path leading up to and through the main face-to-face conference being organised by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries of the Government of the Netherlands. This Conference will take place in Maastricht, the Netherlands from September 12-17, 1999 (see more information here).
We should like to take this opportunity to welcome back all of you who participated in the the E-Conference that took place in February and March (see more information here)and we also extend a warm welcome to all those who have just joined us on this Road to Maastricht.
The successful E-Conference held earlier this year served as a forum for rich debate and provided a valuable opportunity for taking stock of issues,experiences and learning on the topic. The outcome of that E-conference contributed to the two main technical documents prepared for discussion at the Conference in Maastricht in September (see more information here).
The goals of this part of the E-conference are very clear.
- It will provide direct inputs into the face-to-face discussions by analysing and discussing key issues and concepts to be debated in Maastricht.
- It will act as a virtual forum for reacting to and interacting with on-going sessions during the Conference (September 12-17).
This then, is your opportunity to contribute directly to the Conference and to "virtually" attend it too!
