Sustainable mountain tourism in action
According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), tourism is sustainable if it meets the needs of the present tourists and host regions while protecting and enhancing the opportunity for the future. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) sees sustainable tourism as leading to the management of all resources in such a way that economic, social and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled, while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity and life support systems.
The following examples from around the world show how tourism in mountains can be implemented successfully in a sustainable way.
