Peru
In Peru the celebration of IMD was organised by the Cancillería Peruana and inaugurated at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM). This important event was attended by the Dean of the UNALM, the FAO permanent representative, representatives of the ministry of agriculture and of the environmental division of the ministry of foreign affairs among many others. Austria
The Federal Institute for Less-Favoured and Mountainous Areas in Vienna celebrated the International Mountain Day 2006 on 11th of December with an event on Kilimanjaro in Africa. Slides were presented and sustainable tourism and regional development issues were discussed. About 50 people with different professional background attended this event.
Kashmir/India
International Mountain Day 2006' was celebrated on 11th December in Uri, Barmulla District of Jammu & Kashmir - one of the worst hit areas of the earthquake in the Himalayas in October 2005 situated near the border with Pakistan. The Centre for Environment Education India (CEE Himalaya) organized a 1-day seminar on the theme of the Day wherein 50 people from various villages in Baramulla district participated with great enthusiasm.
