The PAIA-MTNS includes representatives from each FAO department working on aspects related to sustainable mountain development. The PAIA meets regularly and provides an inter-departmental focus to mountain issues. Task forces are nominated to carry out specific tasks, such as organizing observance of the annual UN International Mountain Day (11 December), which FAO is mandated to lead.
