FAO and ITU visits Uvurkhangai aimag

In the framework of project “Animal Identification and Registration System”, The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (UNFAO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) team led by Mr.Vinod Ahuja, FAOR in Mongolia has visited Uvurkhangai aimag to understand the current situation of animal recording systems and to discuss with local authorities on implementation of the project. The project is to be implemented in Bayangol, Bat-Ulzii, Guchin-Us and Uyanga soums of Uvurkhagai.

The team visited Uyanga soum to meet with the specialists working hands on recording and traceability at Department of agriculture and veterinary service at Soum level. Goal of the trip is coordinate the project implementation in hands with “Animal health traceability system” project by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) currently starting in Uyanga and Bat-Ulzii soum. These two soums were chosen on purpose by the Steering Committee to overlap with SDC project to increase the coordination between projects and possibility of scaling up to national level.

In order to increase the full cycle of the registration system, the project has extended its request work with local slaughter house and meat processing factories. Mr.Vinod Ahuja, FAOR and Mr. Narayan Ashish, Programme Coordinator in the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific met with the management team of “World Food” LLC, meat processing factory and “Uv-Eco”, state owned slaughter house. Both companies are actively expanding its activities to increase their opportunities for export.
