Convention on Biodiversity (COP14) and Global Islands Partnership side-events

The United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP14) will be held from 13 - 29 November 2018 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The United Nations will call on decision makers from more than 190 countries to step up efforts to halt the biodiversity loss and protect the ecosystems that support food and water security and health for billions of people. 

Three Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) supported side-events will be taking place during COP 14.

Beyond Biodiversity: Scaling Up Invasive Species Eradications on Islands
Date and time: Tuesday, 20 November 2018 at 13.15
Description:This event will bring together island Parties and Parties with islands alongside the Conservation community and innovators to quantify how the removal of IAS from islands has contributed to, and acknowledge how there is still time for Parties to contribute to the Aichi Biodiversity targets, and increasingly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Wealth of Islands: Bright Spots in Island Implementation 
Date and time: Wednesday, 21 November 2018 at 18.15
Description: This event will reflect on what progress has been made in islands, new ides and what can be scaled and replicated across the world in order to help us achieve our biodiversity goals and the post 2020 biodiversity framework. 

Tourism Supporting Biodiversity, The Case of Island States 
Date and time: Thursday, 22 November 2018 at 13.15
Description: This event will allow SIDS GLISPA member states and tourism professionals to showcase leading examples of positive contributions, and discuss ways and incentives for these experiences to be replicated by other Parties and players.
