IPROMO 2019 Summer School: Landscape approach for enhancing mountain resilience

Ormea, Italy, and Pieve Tesino, Italy
From: 02.07.2019 to: 18.07.2019

The International Programme on Research and Training on Sustainable Management of Mountain Areas (IPROMO) offers annual two week courses on the sustainable management of mountain areas and is organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the University of Turin and the University of Tuscia.

The final objective is to train practioners, technicians and officers of governmental institutions and NGOs on the management of mountain areas that have high ecological, social, economic complexity. Additionally, IPROMO provides scientific knowledge to allow participants to assess potential ecological and social impacts of different management policies.

Every year a different topic linked to sustainable mountain development is selected. This year’s IPROMO will focus on several aspects, tools and skills that contribute to an integrated management of mountain areas through a landscape approach, ranging from environmental conservation, water supply to income generation and food security. Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of a participatory approach where local communities and authorities closely cooperate.
