High-level Political Forum (HLPF) Mountain Partnership event: "Mountains and the decade of action and delivery"

There will be a virtual side event at the 2020 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) called "Mountains and the decade of action and delivery" held on 9 July 2020 from 8-9 a.m. EST (New York time). 

The side event is organized by Government of Malawi, the Government of Argentina, the Government of Italy, the Government of Switzerland and the Mountain Partnership.

The UN Decade of Action 2020 - 2030 calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to the world’s challenges. Yet mountain people are still lagging behind. One billion mountain people live in the developing countries, and of these, 648 million live in rural areas.  Half of the rural mountain people, 346 million, were estimated to be vulnerable to food insecurity in 2017. As recommended by A/RES/74/227 on sustainable mountain development, the event will call for coordinated actions for mountain people and ecosystems, to reduce the effects of climate change in mountains, preserve mountain ecosystem services, and improve infrastructure and services for mountain people.
