A fair price for quality agricultural products: for farmers, for workers, for the environment and for sustainable development

The Mountain Partnership conference titled, "A fair price for quality agricultural products: for farmers, for workers, for the environment and for sustainable development,"(Un giusto prezzo per un prodotto agricolo di qualità: per gli agricoltori, per chi lavora, per l’ambiente e lo sviluppo sostenibile) will take place in Rome, Italy on 25 February 2019.

The conference aims to promote a discussion between producers and consumers about equal pay for quality agricultural products. 

The price for agricultural products today is decreasing, thus creating unfair compensation for farmers. The price is not right for farmers that receive very little compensation for their work. As well as consumers, who pay less in economic terms but lose in terms of food, the environment and health. Crushed among these contradictions, agriculture cannot adequately compensate those who work in the food sector. This phenomenon is widespread throughout the world and is particularly pronounced in mountain regions, which are among the most marginalized in social, political and economic terms. Far from markets and with an agriculture often of a family type and managed by women, the mountains suffer from a long supply chain that sees the intervention of too many intermediaries.

Is there a way to reverse this trend? A part of the agricultural and distribution world, especially in the field of organic and quality agriculture, with the support of the international community is mobilizing for a fair price of food products.
