The Organización de Mujeres Milenarias consists of 50 pulque producers from three municipalities and six locations in the Nochixtlán district, located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Seventy-five percent of the producers are women, and 25 percent are young people from local communities. The organization mainly focuses on three themes: food safety, sustainable tourism and climate change. They aim to improve the living conditions of mountain dwellers, promote food security and generate employment opportunities to reduce outmigration. These goals are achieved by taking advantage of local natural and cultural resources in a sustainable manner. |
