Convivium Ararat, a local chapter of the Slow Food network, works with more than 15 family farmers in the region of Gegharkunik, Armenia. They are involved in traditional farming, including goat and cattle breading, pasture, production of honey milk and products. The initiative started in 2006 with two farmers with the aim of revitalizing the production of the traditional Armenian goat cheese, called “motal”, which was once a common product of the region. Convivium Ararat started to work with the local farmers, interesting them in breading goats and processing goat milk. Later, producers of clean mountain honey joined the Convivium. In 2015, Convivium Ararat started an eco-tourism project in cooperation with a group of young people in the villages of Martini and Getik. In its first year, more than 15 groups from Europe were hosted. The latest project of the Convivium is the production sun dried fruits. |
