Coalition Civile pour la Montagne - Morocco

Mountain Civil Coalition (CCM) is a federation of more than 120 associations working throughout Morocco. It was the result of an advocacy programme about promoting decent livelihood for mountain populations and ensure equitable and sustainable development in the mountains. The coalition covers 4 mountain ranges (Atlas + Rif) and has obtained the respect of officials and civil society stakeholders. With the last programme, which was funded by USAID, CCM managed to mobilize a good number of policymakers (parliamentaries, ministers, political parties, human rights actors…) and seeked their support to promote a legal framework and a memorandum that would be translated into specific policies for the sustainable development of moutnain areas.

Currently, we are establishing networks with partners from Spain, France and Columbia. Recently, CCM joined Africa Regional Mountain Forum, as a member of the Governing Council.

The main goals of CCM are:

  • Empower mountain communities to stand for their rights and dignity
  • Advocate in favor of sustainable development in mountains
  • Claim equity and justice for mountain areas and their populations
  • Contribute to reducing climate change effects and encourage green economies
