Since 2006, the Kilimanjaro Initiative has organized annual climbs of Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness on social issues affecting youth in informal settlements. Climbers include disenfranchised youth in East Africa, United Nations and government officials, and representatives from the private sector. Funds raised through the climb support community projects in Kibera slum, Nairobi. The Kilimanjaro Initiative initiated the 2021 Big Climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness on the need to fight COVID-19 together. |
