Makerere University is a long-time renowed teaching and research institution. Its activities include outreach that directly benefits the society in and outside Uganda. Makerere University offers a range of courses in different programmes at both graduate and undergraduate level and some of them are of relevance to the mountain environment. A specialized course on Highland and mountain resource management is offered at the Mountain Resource Centre within the Department of Geography, Geo-informatics and Climare Sciences, and Environment Management. The University has designated the Mountain Resource Centre to spearhead in conducting and coordinating issues concerning mountains and sustainable development in Uganda and beyond. The Centre is engaged in research and outreach, and organises and holds local and international conferences, thus contributing to documentation and sharing of knowledge on mountains. |
