Canadian Mountain Network

The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) is an alliance of partners from universities, governments, indigenous and non-indigenous communities, not-for-profits and businesses dedicated to the sustainability of mountain environments and communities in Canada and around the world.

In 2016, the CMN was established to collaboratively address the diverse challenges facing mountain regions by harnessing existing capacities and seeking new research relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous groups. By 2019, the organization became a Network of Centres of Excellence supported by the government of Canada. The goal of the CMN is to become a leader in inclusive, codesigned, interdisciplinary mountain research that recognizes the interconnectedness of mountain systems - between the environment, economy and society - and encourages an integrated approach for long-term sustainability that serves the needs of mountain communities.

CMN is also more than just a research network, it is also a training network focused on relationships, trust, and application of knowledge to local priorities. CMN hopes to contribute to reconciliation and encourage people to see that we can achieve Indigenous-led research that is relevant, respectful and generates tangible outcomes that can assist communities in growing and moving forward.
