International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)

IIED is a non-profit policy research institute which seeks to promote more sustainable and equitable development and natural resource management, working with partners in developing countries.IIED is supporting sustainable development amongst indigenous peoples and local communities in mountain regions through participatory action-research, community to community learning exchanges and networks, and policy engagement. In particular, IIED aims to enhance capacity of mountain communities to adapt to the threats posed by climate change, through the use of traditional knowledge, indigenous seeds and cultural concepts for conservation, wellbeing and landscape management. IIED works with ANDES (Peru) to coordinate the International Network of Mountain Indigenous Peoples
