The Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum

30.10.2018

The Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum 2018 will take place from 1- 2 November 2018 in Assam, India. This year’s theme will focus on “Rural Futures: Social-Environmental-Economic Interdependence” and is organized by the Balipara Foundation.

The Balipara Foundation focuses on ecological protection and restoration of the Eastern Himalayan Region through the concept of Naturenomics™. Naturenomics™ relates to capital formation for a region or an organization through the creation of ecologically 'compliant' assets in a sustainable manner. According to Balipara, the current model of economic development forces us to make a choice between development and sustaining natural resources. Contrary to this belief, Naturenomics™ believes that this need is not a choice. But rather emphasis on natural resources is essential, when dealing with economic development.

The goal of the forum is to create a multi-disciplinary platform for innovation and collaboration, which successfully tackles conservation issues. Topics such as the crucial role of local communities in the Eastern Himalayas and supporting local economies and livelihoods will be discussed.

The forum will host over 600 delegates from more than 14 countries and will bring together indigenous, community, university, government, and NGO people from around the world, aiming to produce lessons of relevance to communities, policy- makers, researchers from the local to global level. Participating countries include India, the United States, China, Bhutan, Nepal, France, UK, Germany, Bangladesh, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Myanmar and Japan.

After the forum, the 6th Balipara Foundation Awards 2018 will take place 2 November. Thirteen new Earth Heroes, who put into action innovative solutions for ecological restoration will be awarded. Experts from around the world have endorsed the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum and awards as a catalyst of change as they highlight the role of local communities in the preservation of natural resources and their development to meet the 2030 United Nations Development Goals.
