Call for applications, Forum ODT 2018

29.04.2018

The sixth edition of the Forum “Origin, Diversity and Territories” (Forum ODT), to be held on 19-21 September 2018 in Turin, Italy, will focus on “Perspectives on territories in transition”. Agriculture and the marketing of agro-food products are crucial to the sustainable development of rural areas. Rural areas are often isolated, lack public services and are affected by a series of transformations associated with economic, social and climatic changes. These transformations are leading to a decline in family farming and an increase in the social divide between urban and rural areas.

The event taps into an international movement that is aiming to create and adopt innovative ecological and social solutions for a better future for small producers and inhabitants of rural territories. The promotion of local food products through mechanisms such as labels, appellations of origin and protected geographical indications is a relevant strategy to support territories towards a better recognition within the market of what makes them unique. Local products and their valorisation contribute to the preservation and vitality of natural and cultural diversities.

The 2018 Forum ODT aims to explore and put into perspective the theme of ecological and social transitions in territories. A three-day training will precede the Forum ODT on 16-18 September in Piedmont, Italy, and will focus on market access and linking to consumers, diversifying livelihoods through tourism and other services, mobilizing producers and the keys for an involved governance. The closing of the Forum ODT will take place at Slow Food’s Terra Madre Salone del Gusto.

The Forum ODT organizers have launched a call for applications for people involved in a collective organization and local development products to take place in the three-day training. Interested individuals may submit a project whose innovative character is exemplary of new models of ecological and social transition in rural areas.
