1-WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO APPLY FOR A POSITION?

I grew up in an environmentally friendly household, where sustainability was key. I had found out about the position from a friend who had been volunteering there before me. As a communications major and creative writing minor, I thought it would be a great opportunity to combine my major with something I’m really passionate about. This allowed me to do both, but more importantly, it allowed me to make a difference in the world. Having the opportunity to work at an international organization before graduating college was one that I could not let slide.

2- WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR WORK WITH THE MOUNTAIN PARTNERSHIP SECRETARIAT?

The great thing about this opportunity was that I was able to tailor it to my interest. My recent focus at university had been graphic design, so as a result I worked on several products that required design skills. I created a brochure of the MPS publications that has been distributed at conferences around the world. I’m proud that I was able to help with the work the MPS does.

3- WHAT DOES A NORMAL DAY AT WORK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

A normal day for me included working on the MPS’ social media, extending its outreach by creating innovative, interesting posts, which required research and following the news. Moreover, I was also available for any support any of the team members needed, whether it was for social media, an event or meeting.

4- WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WISHING TO JOIN AS VOLUNTEER?

My advice to someone wishing to join as a volunteer would be to be passionate about the environment, sustainability and, most importantly, mountains. The internship not only teaches you skills, but also about mountains and how pivotal they are for the world. The internship is fast paced and is prone to change throughout the workday, so multitasking is key. Try hard, pitch new ideas, ask questions and learn as much as you can.
