FAO has had a Representation in Mozambique since 1979. The Office is strongly linked to the Organization's headquarters in Rome, Italy, as well as to the regional and subregional offices in, respectively, Accra, Ghana, and Harare, Zimbabwe.

Within the mandate and the strategic objectives of FAO and in line with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Mozambique, the Representation supports the government in its programme for 2022-2026, in collaboration with civil society, the private sector and academic institutions, as well as with the other UN agencies and other cooperation partners in:

• Policy formulation and analysis
• Institutional development and capacity building
• Support of value chains: production, conservation and trade
• Nutrition education
• Dissemination of new technologies
• Natural resources management
• Development of statistics and information systems
• Information sharing and advocacy
