World Food Day 2016

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water & Forestry commemorated the World Food Day under the theme “Climate is changing. Food and Agriculture must too” on the 24 October 2016 in Khorixas, Kunene Region.

The event was well attended by senior government officials the inhabitants of Khorixas and nearby towns.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry (MAWF), on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Namibia donated agricultural tools to small agricultural projects and individual farmers namely: Mokutura Gardening from Epupa Constituency, Tara Neho Gardening from Opuwo Rural constituency, Itumbapo Gardening from Opuwo urban constituency, Marbasen Karakul Farming and Farm Diema from Khorixas constituency, with few tools and agricultural equipments essential worth N$30 000.

The Government of the Republic of Namibia sincerely hopes that these tools and equipments will be put to effective use while contributing meaningfully towards achieving food security and nutrition in our country especially at household level”, said The Minister for Agriculture, Water & Forestry.

Other food items donated by MAWF from its various green scheme and research stations are 50 bags of wheat flour, 100 kg of kalimbeza rice and other fresh produce were donated to the elderly who attended the World Food Day.
