Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and FAO sign Unilateral Trust Fund Agreement to Promote Agriculture Sector in Oman

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Oman and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization signed today a Unilateral Trust Fund (UTF) agreement aimed at developing a strategic, comprehensive framework for the sustainable development of the agriculture sector in Oman. The UTF agreement is intended to develop, through a wide consultative and participative process, an Agriculture Strategy to attain food security, increase production and enhance management of natural resources at national level.

Trust Fund will help Formulate the National Agriculture Strategy Towards Sustainable Agricultural Development

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Oman and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization signed today a Unilateral Trust Fund (UTF) agreement aimed at developing a strategic, comprehensive framework for the sustainable development of the agriculture sector in Oman.

The UTF agreement is intended to develop, through a wide consultative and participative process, an Agriculture Strategy to attain food security, increase production and enhance management of natural resources at national level.

Farmers and their associations, traders, consumers associations, relevant civil society representatives, local authorities and academicians will be active part of the process.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. H.E. Dr Fuad bin Jaafar AlSajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries signed on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries while Mr EL Zein Mustafa EL Muzamil, FAO Representative in Oman, signed the agreement on behalf of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

“We are very pleased with the fruitful partnership established with FAO and we are confident this agreement will represent a further consolidation of our collaboration to promote the agriculture as a strategic sector for Oman’s economic growth and Food Security” highlighted H.E. Dr AlSajwani.

"The strategy will be a multi-stakeholder policy tool that will benefit agricultural decision makers in streamlining policies and will constitute a strategic step forward to the attainment of a sustainable social and economic development of the rural population of the country" said Mr. El Muzamil, FAO Representative in Oman.
