Nepal observes First World Food Safety Day

13/06/2019Kathmandu- The First World Food Safety Day (WFSD) was observed in Nepal under the auspices of the Government of Nepal Ministry of Agriculture and livestock Development, Department of Food technology and Quality Control(DoFTQC) on 7 June 2019. The event coincides with the 11th National Food Safety Day and the third Food Safety Month.
More than 400 men and women representing the government agencies, UN Agencies, Consumers' Forums and the Students walked through the 6-km long route in between DFTQC and Nepal Administrative Staff College, the venue of the ceremonial function, carrying the placard with the messages on the food safety.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Chakrapani Khanal said, "We are putting our effort to regulate the sector on issues related to consumers’ health and life.”
Minister Khanal further said, “Consumers’ right to healthy food will be prioritized by the ministry.”
The Minister Khanal and Minister of State for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ms Ram Kumari Chaudhari gave away the certificates of appreciations to the outstanding government staff, entrepreneurs and representatives of the consumer forums.
Sanjeev Karn, Director-General of DoFTQC, presided over the ceremonial functions.
Gorakhaptra, the state-owned national daily carried out a page devoted to the World Food Safety Day with the messages from Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Minister of State for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Director of the DFTQC.
