Global food prices dipped in October, led lower by dairy products, and are now around 27 percent below their all-time high in early 2011. The FAO Food Price Index averaged 176.4 points for the month of October, down 1.3 percent from September while up 2.5 percent from a year earlier.

More than 250 experts and observers, gathered at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to conduct back-to-back meetings focussed on the review of scientific information on toxic chemicals, with a view to recommending inclusion in the annexes of the two conventions.

“We should aim to produce an outcome that will be a step closer towards an inclusive, balanced and equitable global trading system,” FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva said. A top priority is prioritize global agreements over bilateral trade instruments, he told the Committee on Commodity Problems.

The campaign aims to protect and enhance the assets of 210 000 people who rely on rearing livestock for food and income in the Ninewa Governorate. It includes vaccinating almost 1 million sheep, goats, cattle and buffalo and providing 1 500 tonnes of high-nutrient feed for 60 000 animals.
