Food Security for children within REACH
"Renewed Efforts Against Hunger (REACH)" is a multi-agency approach that presents an effective way of operationalising the ' One UN ' concept. It is aimed at building a strong framework for national inter-sectorial and inter-agency synergies, which would in turn provide stronger and more sustainable results in terms of reduction of child hunger and malnutrition. Government staff from relevant ministries, UN agencies (UNICEF, FAO, WFP, WHO), and NGOs have been working together to gain a common understanding of the current activities and gaps related to food and nutrition. This is an issue that also captures the attention of the Committee on Agriculture 21st Session Rome, 22-25 April 2009. Florence Egal, a nutritionist, is REACH's focal point in FAO. 'The approach is challenging for FAO', she told us.
