16 October 2014, Rome--- The State of Food and Agriculture for 2014 has been released today by FAO. This year’s topic: Innovation in Family Farming. There are more than 570 million farms in the world. Over 500 million of those are family run farms. While the United Nations has declared 2014 as the international year of Family farming, the topic is garnering more and more attention as new research and analysis emerge about the role of family farmers in global food security. However, as this latest report acknowledges, definitions of family farming and how to tackle the challenges facing family farmers is quite complex.
