FAO calls for $8 million to help farmers
AFP
30 April 2015, Rome--- The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization is calling for $8 million in aid to help Nepalese farmers during this time of crisis in the country. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal last week, has killed thousands and has left approximately 3.5 million in need of food assistance. According to FAO, this call for aid is urgently needed to help farmers rapidly recover lost agricultural inputs. They must also resume preparations for the upcoming rice sowing season set to start in mid-to-late May.

Somsak Pipoppinyo is the FAO Representative in Nepal and Bhutan. He is currently on the phone in Kathmandu, Nepal. In the following interview he provides insight into what is happening in the affected agriculture areas and the implications of that damage.
